I am Shavon Mitchell of Vandell Photography, the woman behind the camera. I was born and raised in the inner city of Harlem, New York. As a young girl I was always fascinated with the concepts of fashion and envisioned myself impacting the fashion industry in a dynamic way. In a battle to pursue my dream, I began my journey of fashion through education. I am now a graduate of SUNY College at Oneonta where I received a B.S in Fashion Merchandising and a B.A in Computer Art. Attending and working various fashion shows including the Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, I have become well seasoned in many areas of the fashion world. Working with designers and styling photo shoots I have only just begun to leave the mark of “Vandell” in this industry. Through pushing myself and knocking down doors that weren’t always open for me, I was introduced to the world of photography and instantly fell in love. I started out organizing photo shoots of friends and family and soon discovered my specialty and calling, Fashion Photography. I organized every aspect of my photo shoots from being the creative director to styling the models; which all helps me to stay in tuned with my innovative fashionable side. After a year of doing Fashion photography I decided to venture off to other forms of photography. So I began taking portraits of babies kids, artist, actors and so on. This helped expand my experience and taught me so much more about the idea of photography, that its not just about taking a picture its the meaning behind the photo. Every smile, kiss, hug, I capture is a moment in the families lives that will be captured forever. I especially enjoy the connection and rush of inspiration I feel from behind the lens. I pride myself on having a creative, fashionable, and spontaneous, anything goes approach. I want to take photography in every direction possible and show the world how important the craft of photography is. |
